The Shadowed

Since waking in that quiet room some months ago, I have gradually come to terms with who I was, and who I am now. The experience of amnesia and anamnesis has changed me irrevocably; I am no longer you, and you exist no longer.

It is fair to say that you feared death, and perhaps I still do, but this is as though I have died, and been born again. It is a chance to remake myself in a different image, but: everywhere I am reminded of you, and still, from time to time, others treat me like they would have treated you.

To that end, I am The Shadowed, uncovering past traumas and digressions, using these letters like Spades to digging through ancient memories, or filling the Cups of my psyche with long-dead emotions. I long to move on from these feelings; over the coming weeks I wish to excise yourself from myself, or at least come to terms with you. Hence, writing these letters, walking miles to drop them in a decaying postbox: a ritual to exorcise ghosts, and demons.

These letters may contain hints at a former life spent in misdemeanour, or in happiness. They may contain themes of grief, anger, regret, or sadness. But they may do so with feelings of gracious wistfulness and nostalgia, or courageous, triumphant redemption.

The Shadowed is a playset for use with ghostbox by Marx of High Water and is a kind of follow-on exercise once you have completed a playthrough of Anamnesis by Blinking Birch Games. It uses the suit of Spades from a french-suited deck, or the suit of Cups from a tarot deck.
